Louisiana Sports Betting Handle Hits $272.1M in August 2026

Louisiana sports betting generated $272.1 million in wagers during August 2026. However, the handle declined slightly from the previous year.

The Louisiana Gaming Control Board (LGCB) reported $260.7 million in mobile wagers and $11.4 million through retail sportsbooks. Mobile betting therefore accounted for about 96% of the state's total handle.

Sportsbooks also generated approximately $32.8 million in combined net proceeds. Mobile operators produced $31.1 million, while retail sportsbooks generated $1.7 million.

Mobile Betting Continues to Drive Louisiana Sports Betting

Louisiana's regulated sports betting market in August was dominated by mobile wagering.

The state's $260.7 million mobile handle fell 3.6% from $269.3 million in July. However, it increased from $251.8 million in August 2025.

Mobile sportsbooks reported a 11.9% win percentage during August. That figure compared with 12.0% during the same month last year.

Meanwhile, mobile net proceeds increased to $31.1 million from $30.2 million in August 2025. This result shows how operators maintained revenue despite relatively modest changes in wagering volume.

The figures also highlight the importance of US online sportsbooks to Louisiana's betting market. Mobile wagering now represents the overwhelming majority of the state's sports betting activity.

Retail Betting Handle Falls 41.8%

Retail sportsbooks recorded a much weaker August performance.

Louisiana's retail handle reached $11.4 million, down 41.8% from $19.6 million a year earlier. Retail net proceeds also dropped 47.5% to $1.7 million.

Retail sportsbooks posted a 15.3% win percentage in August. That compared with 16.9% during August 2025.

As a result, the retail market accounted for only about 4% of Louisiana's combined sports betting handle. The widening gap between mobile and retail wagering remained one of August's clearest trends.

Parlays Lead Mobile Betting Proceeds

Parlays remained the largest source of mobile sports betting net proceeds.

Mobile parlays generated approximately $20.1 million in August. That figure represented the largest contribution among the sports and bet types tracked by Louisiana State Police.

Baseball generated $2.9 million in mobile net proceeds. Basketball followed with $1.4 million, while football produced nearly $1.5 million.

Soccer contributed approximately $474,000, while other betting categories generated $4.9 million.

Retail betting also relied heavily on parlays. Those wagers generated approximately $1 million in retail net proceeds during August.

Fall Sports Calendar Could Lift Future Handle

August also marked the transition toward Louisiana's busiest sports betting period.

The NFL season began in September, while the NCAAF also entered its regular-season schedule. Those competitions provide sportsbooks with a larger selection of football markets.

The NBA season will add another major betting product later in the fall. Consequently, Louisiana operators will have several major leagues competing for bettors' attention.

The timing could make the next few monthly reports particularly important for Louisiana gambling. September and October results will capture more football wagering than August did.

The NFL also entered the 2026 season with major sportsbook partnerships. DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics Betting and Gaming secured multi-year agreements with the league.

Louisiana Sports Betting Remains Mobile-First

Overall, August produced a mixed picture for Louisiana sports betting.

The state's combined handle reached about $272.1 million, while mobile wagering continued to dominate the market. Retail betting, meanwhile, experienced a substantial year-over-year decline.

Mobile operators also generated most of the state's $32.8 million in combined net proceeds. Parlays remained the leading source of mobile betting proceeds.

The broader Louisiana gaming market weakened during August as well. Total gaming revenue declined 6.4% year over year to $201 million. Sports betting therefore remained an important component of the state's overall gambling industry.

With football now entering the market, upcoming reports will provide a clearer picture of Louisiana's sports betting trajectory. The arrival of the NFL and NCAAF should also bring greater attention to the state's online and retail sportsbooks.
