The Saturday card from Fair Grounds features a pair of Louisiana Stakes. Jack Hammer looks a worthy favorite in the LA Stallion of the Year stakes.
Fair Grounds- Race 1
Post: 1:15 PM CT; $18k Maiden Claiming going 6 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 8
- #5 UNBRIDLED ANNSLEY (5-1) gets the top selection. She makes sense on speed figures. This one has solid early pace figures in a race that looks to lack a ton of front running speed.
- #6 KEEP LEFT (5-1) appears to be a major player in this race. She has races good enough to beat this group. This one has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
- #2 SENSE OF HEART (3-1) should be competitive in this spot. She shouldn't have trouble with the 6 furlong distance.
- #7 PUABIS GOLD (6-1) debuts here and feels like a fringe contender in this spot. She has the pedigree to be a major player in this spot.
Selections: 5 – 6 – 2 – 7
Fair Grounds- Race 2
Post: 1:45 PM CT; $28k Maiden Claiming going 6 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 6
- #5 PERMAFROST (2-1) is the top pick. He has races good enough to beat this group. This one has solid early pace figures in a race that looks to lack a ton of front running speed.
- #1 BRIARTOWN (9-2) could be in with a shot in this race. He has to be respected going out for the combination of Calhoun and Gutierrez.
- #4 DE SAIX (9-2) should be sitting in the second tier of runners and looking to make one well timed run at the leaders.
- #3 MO MOVES (6-1) is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. He could be a dangerous threat to get loose on the front end.
Selections: 5 – 1 – 4 – 3
Fair Grounds- Race 3
Post: 2:15 PM CT; $50k Maiden Special Weight going about 7 1/2 furlongs on turf; Entries: 10
- #5 SAM STORMY (6-1) looks best here. He goes out for the Kenneally barn and gets Gutierrez in the irons.
- #1 KID KETCHUM (3-1) debuts here and should be competitive in this spot. He has to be respected going out for the combination of Cox and Pedroza. The positive morning line is a bonus.
- #6 MORE THAN FIVE (9-2) feels like a fringe contender in this spot. He makes sense on speed figures. This one looks to be the class of the field.
- #4 DECCAN PRINCE (4-1) could be a dangerous threat to get loose on the front end. This one is well bred for this spot.
Selections: 5 – 1 – 6 – 4
Fair Grounds- Race 4
Post: 2:45 PM CT; $51k Allowance going 6 furlongs on dirt; Entries: 6
- #5 DISTORTED PRO (2-1) gets the top selection. He seems to fit well enough here. This one has races good enough to beat this group.
- #2 TODDCHERO (4-1) appears to be a major player in this race. He has back races that would win this race.
- #6 NATURAL HARBOR (5-2) should be competitive in this spot. He has really consistent pace figures which should work well in a moderately paced race.
- #4 INVULNERABLE (9-2) looks to be the class of the field.
Selections: 5 – 2 – 6 – 4

- #3 GUITAR WOMAN (7-2) looks like a logical type in this spot. She may benefit from a hot pace up front.
- #4 HOPEITSMYLUCKYDAY (15-1) is a price horse and is probably best to put underneath on most tickets. She could get the right setup in this race.
Selections: 5 – 7 – 3 – 4

- #1 DESERT DUKE (2-1) looks best here. He has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts. This one goes out for the Hartman barn and gets Murrill in the irons.
- #4 HE'S GOT SWAGGER (9-5) should improve off the first start and appears to be a major player in this race. He showed a good kick on debut and should only get better with a little foundation.
- #8 SCAT DANZ (6-1) debuts here and may have a shot. If this one falls lower than morning line near post, it may be an indicator to play this runner.
- #2 ICE TIME (8-1) is a nice price with a bit of experience. This one feels like one worth using on some deeper tickets.
Selections: 1 – 4 – 8 – 2
Fair Grounds- Race 7
Post: 4:15 PM CT; $75k Louisiana Stallion Of The Year Half Ours S. going 1 mile 70 yards on dirt; Entries: 8
- #7 JACK HAMMER (7-5) gets the top selection. He could get the right setup in this race. This one has the top overall power rating in the group.
- #1 ALLNIGHT MOONLIGHT (9-2) isn't without hope. He has tactical speed and can sit just off the leaders for a stalk and pounce trip.
- #5 MANGUM (9-2) makes sense on speed figures which put him in the mix against this field.
- #3 STIFF DRINK (15-1) is a price horse and seems to be running for the minor placings in this contest. Although overmatched here he seems to be as likely as some of the mid price horses which makes him good value.
Selections: 7 – 1 – 5 – 3

Selections: 5 – 6 – 3 – 9
Fair Grounds- Race 9
Post: 5:15 PM CT; $51k Allowance Optional Claiming going 1 1/16 miles on dirt; Entries: 9
- #9 CRUMP (7-2) looks best here. He will likely have a lot to do in the lane, but could get up with a competitive run. This one has proven to be able to handle these conditions in previous starts.
- #6 BRIGADIER GENERAL (5-1) should be competitive in this spot. He seems to fit well enough here. This one has the top overall power rating in the group.
- #8 COUSIN LARRY (4-1) has races good enough to beat this group. This one will be looking to hit top gear late.
- #4 JEEPER (6-1) is a reasonable alternative to the top 3 selections. It seems like this one would need everything to go his way, but its possible.
Selections: 9 – 6 – 8 – 4
