<p>After seven agonizing months, meaningful NFL football will be making its return on Thursday night. And what a doozy we’ll get to open the new season, as the reigning Super Bowl champion Los Angeles Rams welcome the Buffalo Bills, the preseason favorite to lift the Lombardi Trophy this season, to SoFi Stadium.</p>
<p>After winning a second straight AFC East crown and coming up 13 seconds short of a second straight trip to the AFC Championship Game, Buffalo is expected to take the next step this season in a stacked AFC, led by NFL MVP favorite Josh Allen.</p>
<p>While the Rams are the champs, they don’t sit atop the preseason NFC title odds. Instead, the retired and then unretired Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers do, followed by the Rams and Green Bay Packers.</p>
<p>These two teams last met in Week 3 of the 2020 season and played a thriller in Orchard Park. </p>
<p>Buffalo led 28-3 almost midway through the third quarter, but the Rams rallied for four straight touchdowns and 29 unanswered points to take a late lead. </p>
<p>However, Allen and the Bills had the last word, as he hooked up with tight end Tyler Kroft for the game-winning score with 15 seconds left in a 35-32 win.</p>
<p>A lot has changed for both franchises since then, but we should expect to see another exciting encounter.</p>

<p><strong>Prediction:</strong> Rams 34, Bills 31</p>
<p>There’s a more than fair chance that we could see this matchup next February 12 at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona, so if the action is so good that it leaves you craving more, that is a prospect to look forward to.</p>
<p>The last two season openers have been high-scoring games, and the reigning Super Bowl champion came out on top at home in both games. </p>
<p>In the 2020 season opener, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Houston Texans 34-20. Last year, Brady and the Bucs outlasted the Dallas Cowboys 31-29.</p>
<p>With two of the best offenses in the league on the field, we should expect a similar outcome at SoFi Stadium.</p>
<p>But who will take the win in the season’s curtain raiser? The Bills are certainly good value as a favorite, but the Rams didn’t all of a sudden fall off after winning the Super Bowl. </p>
<p>Look for them to make a statement and get their title defense underway with a win. </p>
<p>The safe play, of course, is to back the Rams to cover the spread. But this will likely be the only time this season, at least in the regular season, that we see the Rams as an underdog at home, and I don’t think such an opportunity should be passed on.</p>
