Suns vs Mavericks Prediction, Picks & Player Props: Will Durant dazzle in Dallas?

Eddie Griffin

Today, Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving will face off for the first time since the end of their time together with the Brooklyn Nets, as KD’ and the Phoenix Suns visit Kyrie and the Dallas Mavericks (1:00 pm ET, ABC).

Kyrie is coming off of his best game since his move to Dallas, as he went for 40 points on Thursday in the Mavs’ 133-126 win over the Philadelphia 76ers.

This will be Durant’s third game with the Suns, as he only made his return from injury on Wednesday. After doing his part to help the Suns win in Charlotte and Chicago, he will be looking to remain undefeated with his new team.

How should you bet today’s matchup at American Airlines Center? Read on for our Suns vs Mavericks picks, as well as a prediction for the KD vs Kyrie showdown.

Will Phoenix Stay Hot on the Road?

After some struggles on the road earlier this season, the Suns have gotten their act together and have continued with Durant’s addition to the lineup.

In their first 24 road games this season, Phoenix was 7-17 SU and 11-13 ATS. But they are 7-2 SU and ATS in their last nine road games, and they have covered in each of their last four road games. And of their last seven road wins, six have been by double digits.

That bodes well for their matchup with the Mavericks, who haven’t exactly been thriving with their new addition. The win over the Sixers may well be a catalyst to changing that, but it was also just their second win in their last seven games.

For the season, the Mavs have been far better at home (21-12 SU) than on the road (12-19 SU), but the win over the Sixers took them to just 2-3 SU and ATS with Kyrie.

You’d think things will improve more and more, but for now, bettors need to exercise caution with the Mavs.

Phoenix Suns vs Dallas Mavericks Prediction and Picks

Suns vs Mavericks Prediction: Suns to win

Suns vs Mavericks Picks: Suns ML (Best Value: Caesars Sportsbook) & Suns/Mavericks over (Best Value: Caesars Sportsbook & BetMGM)

The Mavs had a nice win over the Sixers last time out, and our aggregated NBA picks heavily favor Dallas to take the win at home. However, based on where both teams are at the moment, I like the Suns in this spot.

The over is also a solid play here, as the over is 4-1-0 in the Mavs’ last five home games and 6-2-0 in the eight games in which Kyrie has played.

Suns vs Mavericks Player Props

  • Kevin Durant over 23.5 points (Best Value: Caesars Sportsbook)
  • Kevin Durant over 1.5 made threes (Best Value: Caesars Sportsbook)

Durant scored 23 points in 27 minutes in his debut against the Hornets and 20 points in 31 minutes against the Bulls, but I’m looking for him to go beyond both of those games today against his former running mate.

There’s a lot of juice with the over on his made threes prop, but I still see a lot of value in it after he went 2 of 4 from three against both the Hornets and Bulls.
