Carlos Alcaraz Wimbledon 2023 Novak Djokovic men's singles final odds prediction picks

Wimbledon is the oldest tennis tournament in the world, dating back to 1877.

Along with being one of the most prestigious sporting events there is, it also receives a great deal of sports betting action each year.

There are a number of ways you can bet on Wimbledon. Below is a rundown of some of the most popular types of Wimbledon bets.

Best Ways to Bet on Wimbledon

Wimbledon Futures Betting

One of the main ways to bet on Wimbledon is to bet on who you think will the tournament.

Many sports betting sites offer the opportunity to bet on Wimbledon futures odds at any point of the year, not just during tournament time.

Here’s an example of Wimbledon futures odds, using 2023 Wimbledon odds:

Odds to Win the 2023 Wimbledon Men’s Singles Title

  • Novak Djokovic -200
  • Carlos Alcaraz +260
  • Daniil Medvedev +1000
  • Jannik Sinner +1100

If you placed a $100 bet at those odds (2.6 to 1) for Alcaraz to win the title, which he did by defeating Djokovic in the final, you would have ended up with a total of $360, your original stake of $100 plus your winnings of $260.

Match Betting

In addition to betting on who you think will win the entire tournament, you can also bet on Wimbledon matches.

There are many kinds of match bets you can make, but here are a few of the most popular bets:

Moneyline

This is a pretty straightforward bet on who you think will win, whether it is who you think will win the entire match or who you think will win a specific set.

Games Spread

The games spread is similar to spread betting in other sports. With this bet, you are betting on who will cover the spread in games won.

Here is an example of a games spread bet:

  • Carlos Alcaraz +3.5 (-115)
  • Novak Djokovic -3.5 (-115)

In this example, which was for the 2023 Wimbledon men’s singles final, Djokovic needed to win four or more games more than Alcaraz to cover the spread.

In the match, both players won 23 games. So, that means that Alcaraz covered the +3.5.

If you placed a $100 bet on Alcaraz +3.5, you would end up with $186.96, your initial stake of $100 plus winnings of $86.96.

Total Match Games Over/Under

As with the games spread, a total games over/under works like over/under betting in other sports like basketball and football.

Here is an example of a total match games over/under bet, again using odds from the 2023 Wimbledon men’s singles final:

  • Over 40.5 Games (-120)
  • Under 40.5 Games (-110)

In the match, Alcaraz and Djokovic played 46 total games. As a result, over 40.5 games came out the winner.

If you placed a $100 bet on the over 40.5 games, you would have a total of $183.33, your initial stake of $100 plus winnings of $83.33.

Set Betting

The above kinds of bets can also be for individual set bets.

Another popular way to bet on sets in a tennis match is to bet on the outcome in sets.

Here is an example of that kind of bet, using a best-of-three sets match (not a real example):

  • Carlos Alcaraz 2-0 -125
  • Carlos Alcaraz 2-1 +250
  • Novak Djokovic 2-0 +125
  • Novak Djokovic 2-1 +325

Say you placed a $100 bet on Alcaraz to win in three sets at the listed odds (2.5 to 1), and he went on to win in three sets. You would end up with $350, your initial stake of $100 plus winnings of $250.

All online sportsbooks are not created equal, and it is important to find the right one before diving too deeply into betting on sports.

You can find on our reviews page, but let’s focus on the following four things when choosing a site to bet on.

Live Betting

Live betting is a very popular way to bet on tennis. With so many matches going on throughout the season and so much action going on in each match, the potential is there to have a lot of success with tennis live betting.

With that in mind, the sports betting site(s) that you use to bet on tennis should have a strong live betting platform.

There is little time between points and games, so being able to make your bets quickly is a must. So, before zeroing in on the book(s) that you prefer, you should test out their live betting platforms to see how quickly your bets will be processed.

Bonuses & Promotions

Good bonuses aren’t a necessity for everyone, but it doesn’t hurt to have some extra money with which to bet on.

Some sports betting sites offer special bonuses and promotions for the marquee events on the sports calendar.

Wimbledon may not garner the attention stateside that, say, the Super Bowl, March Madness, or the Kentucky Derby, but there are sure to be some books out there that offer Wimbledon bonuses and promotions.

Wimbledon Betting Tips and Strategies

There’s a lot of information to take in with betting on tennis, given how many tournaments, matches, and players there are.

But there are a few important things to remember when it comes to betting on Wimbledon or any other tennis tournament.

Keep the Surface in Mind

When you are betting on a match or a tournament, it is important to take note on which surface the event is taking place.

If Player A has beaten Player B five times in their eight meetings, it might be easy to take Player A.

But if Player B’s three wins have come on clay, which is Player B’s best surface and Player A’s weakest surface, Player B is the stronger option.

Wimbledon takes place on grass, so do your research to know which players might be good bets for the tournament, and which players you might need to avoid or use caution with.

Pick Your Spots with Underdogs

Upsets are a frequent part of tennis, perhaps more so than any other individual or team sport.

There’s often a lot of value to take advantage of with underdogs, no matter the tournament.

It is important to know which spots to pounce on, as you want to maximize your value while minimizing risk.

For example, if a higher-ranked player has been dealing with some struggles or some injuries recently, and they are facing an underdog playing on their strongest surface, the higher-ranked player could be ripe for an upset.

Also, if someone has been logging a lot of matches recently or playing long matches, fatigue is a factor to consider.
