If you know of Juventus, AC Milan, Internazionale, Roma, Napoli, Lazio, Fiorentina, then you’re familiar with the Serie A. A league renowned for its emphasis on defensive play, Italy’s Serie A remains one of the top soccer leagues in the world.

Some of the most revered players who have graced the league include Andrea Pirlo, Fabio Cannavaro, Francesco Totti, Gianluigi Buffon, Kaka, Paolo Maldini, Zinedine Zidane and of course, Diego Maradona.

Overview of Serie A

The Serie A is Italy’s top division soccer league. The Serie A was founded in 1898, but the league as we currently know it was established in 1929. Since the 1929 season, 67 clubs have played in the league with Internazionale the only club present in every season.

Juventus is the leagues most successful club with 34 league championships and is also the first Italian team to have achieved a treble in 2009-10. AC Milan and their rivals Internazionale are the 2nd and 3rd most successful clubs in the league with 18 league championships each.

Serie A has produced the most number of UEFA Champions League finalists: Serie A clubs have made it to the finals 27 times, 12 of which were won. The league is currently ranked 3rd in Europe according to the UEFA coefficient; behind La Liga and the Premiere League and ahead of the Bundesliga and Ligue 1.

Although Spain’s La Liga has the highest total number of the coveted Ballon d’Or awards won, more players have been awarded the Ballon d’Or while playing in a Serie A club.

Competition Format

The Serie A’s format, just like most top-flight soccer leagues in Europe, follows the two-legged tie, round robin format. Since 2004, the Serie A has been contested by 20 clubs per season. During the first half of the season, called the andata, each club plays once against each league opponent, totaling19 matches. In the second half of the season, called the ritorno, the clubs play in the exact same order that they did in the first half of the season, but with the home and away situations reversed. The Serie A season runs from August to May.

A club’s rank in the league table is determined by points earned through matches. 3 points for a win, 1 for a draw, no points for a loss. The points are totaled at the end of the season and the team with the most points is crowned league champion. The bottom 3 teams are relegated to Serie B – Italy’s 2nd tier soccer division.

As of the 2018-19 season, the top 4 teams of Serie A are automatically qualified for the group stage of the Champions League.

Features of a good Serie A Betting Site

The Serie A is among the world’s best soccer leagues. As of this article’s writing, , outranked only by Spain’s La Liga (1st) and England’s Premier League (2nd). Given the league’s strength and popularity, a lot of betting sites cover the Serie A. Just like football leagues and teams though, some betting sites are simply better than others. We won’t be getting into every detail as to what makes a great betting site but here are a few things to consider when choosing a Serie A betting site:

  1. Betting Options
  2. Live Betting
  3. Promotions
  4. Mobile Betting

Betting Options

Oftentimes, a bet on which team will win is exciting enough. Soccer and betting enthusiasts, however, will want more betting options. There are a lot of things to bet on in a soccer game – you could bet on almost everything in the rulebook – offsides, (goals from) corner kicks and free kicks, yellow and red cards, penalties… the list goes on. Do look for a sports betting site that has enough options to keep you interested and excited in the games. Sample betting options you’d want to look for include:

  • Total goals scored in the game
  • Goals per team
  • Who scored the opening/closing goal
  • How many corner kicks were taken during the game
  • How many bookings were given
  • Halftime scores

The Serie A is among the top leagues for a reason – it will have its fair share of drama, twists and turns, and breathtaking goals. Choose a betting site that’s ready for your predictions.

  1. Live Betting
Sooner or later, for one reason or another, you will want a betting site that takes in live bets. Perhaps the best reason why you’d want Live Betting is to be able to capitalize on an advantage your team got as the game is happening. That or you just forgot to place a bet before the game started.
  2. Promotions
The more the merrier. This is definitely applicable to promotions. Look for sports betting sites with season-long promotions. Some sportsbooks will offer big bonuses during the pre-season but won’t have anything else afterward. Pick a site that has you covered for the whole season and get more bang for your every buck.
  3. Mobile Betting
Most sports betting sites are mobile ready. Some even have mobile app versions of their sportsbooks. Go for either and take a pass on desktop-only sites – especially if you’ll be making live bets every now and then. If a sports betting company has a mobile-ready site, that (to me, at least) simply says they’re up with the times and that they’ve taken your lifestyle into consideration.

There’s a way to go about sports betting without breaking the bank. How you go about sports betting can spell the difference between being in on the action all season long, or dropping out of the tournament early on (hopefully not without a home). So, to make sure you make it to the Champions League of sports betting, here’s a Betting 101 guide to get you through:

  • Set a betting bankroll.

Yes. Give yourself a budget, a bankroll, a fund – This is Step 1 and is perhaps the most crucial of betting strategies. Plan how much you’re willing to spend for the entire season and break it down to a desired number of games. Which brings us to the next point…

  • Don’t bet on each Serie A game.

Let’s do a bit of math here. There are 20 teams, that’s 10 games a weekend multiplied by 38 weeks… 380 games to bet on all season long. Betting on 10 games a week surely is the fastest way to deplete your bankroll. Unless you actually do nothing but follow each team week in and week out to make an educated bet on every game, we strongly recommend against this.

  • Make educated bets.

This means you have to do your homework and STUDY! Perhaps the best way to go about this is by taking a serious interest in one or a few teams. Immerse yourself in these teams, learn about their history, their current squad’s strengths and weaknesses, their manager and his preferred tactics, etc. Then, take time to learn about their opponents and how your teams actually stack up against them. Lastly, bet only on predictions you’re comfortable with. Be realistic. Take risks if you want but make sure they’re calculated risks so that you have better chances of winning.

  • Keep a log of the bets you’ve made.

This is something that’s frequently taken for granted but if you take a step back and give it some thought, how else will you know how good your betting decisions are. Sure the state of your bankroll at a certain point in time will tell you if you’re winning or losing money but how about just how good you are at predicting outcomes? How will you know which bets were most profitable and which ones drain you the most? Keep a log – feel like a pro analyst.

  • Pay a lot of attention to changes.

Every club makes changes every season. They make changes to their line-ups, their managers, their strategies and tactics. They make changes, perhaps you should too. Consider a bit of cause and effect and apply these to your betting choices.

  • When the situation is right, take advantage of Live Betting

We recommended choosing sites that support live betting, right? Yup, and we recommend you use this feature to your advantage. Boost a win or manage a loss, live betting will be able to help.

When making a review on a sports betting site, we make sure we consider the sports gambler’s psyche. We factor in aspects of a sport that the gamblers are likely to pay attention to or want to make a bet on.

With that in mind, we’ve compiled a list of recommended Serie A betting sites. These companies have been reviewed and highly rated by our team and have a great selection of Serie A bets for you to choose from. Of course, these sites were also rated based on customer service, payment methods, and withdrawal options available. We’ve taken the overall betting experience into consideration.

We encourage you to look at each one, see if any differences matter to you personally, and then look for the best odds on the games you want to bet on!

The Serie A remains one of the best soccer leagues globally. Recent league activity suggests they’re looking to outrank La Liga and dominate European soccer once again. It will be an interesting few seasons, to say the least. Hopefully, our betting site review helps make winning decisions. Good luck with the bets and enjoy the games!
