With three AFC Championship Game appearances and one Super Bowl title to the last three seasons, the Kansas City Chiefs are firmly entrenched as one of the NFL’s top teams. And armed with arguably the best player in the game for potentially the next decade or more, they stand to keep that status for the foreseeable future.

That said, Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs enter the 2021 season with something to prove after last season ended with an ugly, disappointing loss to Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl LV in Tampa. Only eight franchises have repeated as Super Bowl champions, with Brady’s Patriots the only team to do it in the 21st century. That is a testament to how tough it is to go back-to-back, but it seemed like if any team was equipped to do it, it was the Chiefs. However, it was not to be, as they were dominated from start to finish by the “host” Bucs.

That defeat was not enough to deter the Chiefs from being made the NFL betting odds favorite to win Super Bowl LVI, so the expectation is that they will be one of the last two teams at SoFi Stadium standing come February 13, 2022.

With NFL MVP betting odds favorite Mahomes leading the NFL’s most explosive offense and a playmaking defense led by Pro Bowlers Chris Jones and Tyrann Mathieu, the Chiefs are expected to dominate the AFC West and the AFC yet again. It will not be an easy task, with the Buffalo Bills, who lost out to the Chiefs in last season’s AFC Championship Game, building something special, and a host of other potential contenders like the Baltimore Ravens, Cleveland Browns, and Tennessee Titans. But don’t look for the Chiefs to go anywhere this season or anytime soon.
