Last season, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers became the first team in the Super Bowl era to win the Super Bowl as the “host” team, derailing the Kansas City Chiefs’ repeat attempt with a dominant win in Super Bowl LV.

What will Tom Brady and the Bucs do for an encore after their union brought immediate success (and some memorable championship parade content)? Their title defense opened on Thursday night with a thrilling win over Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys, with Brady leading the 3782nd game-winning drive of his illustrious 286-year career. While the Bucs were lit up for over 400 yards through the air by the Dak Attack, it is clear that if the Bucs don’t repeat, it won’t be for a lack of trying.

That said, repeating is a difficult task at the highest levels in any sport, and there hasn’t been a repeat Super Bowl champ since Brady and the New England Patriots went back-to-back in Super Bowl XXXVIII and Super Bowl XXXIX. But if there is anyone who is equipped to do it, it is Brady, who will be looking for his eighth Super Bowl ring.

One thing the Bucs didn’t do last season is win the NFC South, which they have not done since 2007. With the New Orleans Saints, who have won the last four NFC South titles, moving into a new era at quarterback with Jameis Winston taking over for the retired Drew Brees, the Bucs are heavily favored to break that streak. NFL futures odds also back the Bucs to have rematches in the NFC Championship Game (with Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers) and the Super Bowl. Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are currently the NFL betting favorite to win the Super Bowl, but they were last season as well, and we see how that turned out. Will Brady and the Bucs build off of their Week 1 win and roll to a repeat, or will they join the ranks of the teams who have tried and failed?
