Kansas Online Betting Sites

Kansans can rejoice, as they can finally bet on their beloved Kansas Jayhawks legally. Governor Laura Kelly signed bill SB84 in May of 2022, officially making sports betting legal within the State. It took a few months for things to get up and running, but by September 1st, 2022, Kansas Online Betting Sites were up and running in time for the start of the NFL Season.

Sports Betting in Kansas

Back in 2018, the United States Supreme Court repealed a law that had been in place for decades, thus lifting the federal ban on sports betting. States now had the power to decide and govern themselves regarding this industry.

It took several years, and many states got up and running quicker after the repeal. However Kansas, known as a conservative state, took their time and the law finally passed with a Democratic governor.

Today, Kansas is one of the 29 states that offer fully legal and regulated sports betting, and is one of the 24 that offer fully online sports gambling. Retail betting along with Kansas online betting sites launched together on the 1st day of September, finally giving residents the ability to place wagers on their favorite sports teams.

Kansas Online Betting Sites

With the launch of sports betting both in-person and online within the State, a solid number of online sportsbooks moved into Kansas to offer residents a platform to place wagers. Today, there are a total of six online betting sites available in Kansas.

We offer a review of several online sportsbooks including ones not available in Kansas. Find out more about which books are available in which states!

Kansas Betting Restrictions

Kansas currently does not have any restrictions regarding sports betting. Users are welcome to bet on in-state college teams, in-game events, or college player props. Nearly anything users could imagine betting on is available through one of the many Kansas online betting sites.

Users near the states border, most likely residents of Kansas City, KS, will need to make sure their geolocation is turned on. They need to be physically located within the state in order to place their wagers.

For fans attending professional events, such as games at Arrowhead Stadium, live betting will not be an option, as this venue is located across the border in Kansas City, Missouri.

Off to the Races

Kansas bettors got off to a very quick start as soon as online betting sites were available. In the first month of legalization, Kansas users bet over $160 million. Clearly there is a favorite Kansas online betting site already, as FanDuel and DraftKings took more than 70% of the handle.

Missouri residents also tried to join in the fun, even though they did so unsuccessfully. On the 1st day of Kansas sports betting, over 16,000 Missouri residents attempted to place a wager on one of several Kansas online betting sites.

Of course these apps use geographic sensors to track a player’s precise location, ensuring that no bets are accepted outside of the jurisdiction.

A majority of these wager attempts came from residents just across the border in Kansas City, Missouri. Who can blame them for trying to get in on the action?

Horse Betting in Kansas

Here is where things start to get a little weird. At one point, there were operators of live horse and dog races. These operators would receive a license to run these events, and Kansas residents could bet on the outcomes. Then, for some reason, the state revoked these licenses in 2008, leaving the state with no live racing, and with no off-track betting locations for simulcasted races from around the country.

Now, betting on horse races is legal in Kansas, even though no races actually happen within the state. Horse betting in Kansas is currently only available online at specific betting sites.

Online Horse Betting

As stated, Kansas residents can place wagers on horse races, but may only do so online. There are many online betting sites that offer pari-mutual betting on horse and dog races from around the U.S. and Canada, and these bets are only a click away. For Kansans, these sites include TVG, BetAmerica, and TwinSpires.

So, if you are looking to make a bet on the Kentucky Derby or any race happening in the States, check out one of those sites.

Casino Gambling in Kansas

While horse racing got the bum’s rush in Kansas, the same cannot be said for fans of casino games. The state has many casinos spread all over, and the majority of the gaming action is tied to the several Native American tribes within the state.

It all started with a compact between the state and tribes in 1988, and since then several full-scale casinos have been opened on tribal lands.

The state wanted to continue to capitalize on the growth of casino gaming, so it created a law in the late 2000s that would allow for a small number of casinos to be owned and operated by the state lottery. There are now three of these properties in the state, and all of the casinos do excellent business in both slot machines and table games.

There are currently 10 operational casinos spread out throughout the state, and a few of them have sportsbooks attached.

Online Casinos in Kansas

None of the land-based casinos are allowed to offer online versions of their games in Kansas. Casinos are shut out from trying to extend their relationship with players past the front doors. This will change soon as online casino gambling laws will certainly be passed in the years to come in Kansas.

Once it does our expert team will review all of the online casinos licensed in Kansas to present a list of the best ones. If you see a casino on this list, it means that our casino experts (and we have many) have completed a thorough review of the operator.

They cover everything from the company background to the types of complaints that it receives in forums. These sites have passed the tests our team has put them through, so we are happy to recommend them to you.

On top of being trustworthy, these online casinos also offer the best games available in the market. Some even have seven-figure progressive jackpots just for spinning the right combination on a slot machine. Table games enthusiasts will find all their favorites at these online casinos as well.

Lottery in Kansas

Kansas residents have enjoyed playing lottery games for decades. As with most states, the Kansas Lottery was established as a way to generate much-needed funds for education and social programs to assist other Kansas residents.

To date, hundreds of millions of dollars have been raised by the lottery for a lot of great causes. Players can play scratch cards at many retail outlets, as well as taking their shot to win a draw lottery prize that could range from a few hundred dollars to a few hundred MILLION dollars in Powerball.

Daily Fantasy Sports in Kansas

Daily Fantasy Sports contests are legal in Kansas, and actually have been well before regular sports betting. Then-Governor Sam Brownback signed HB 2155 in 2015, thus making DFS and other similar activities legal and regulated within the Sunflower State.
