NFL Week in Review – AFC Future Betting Edition

NFL Futures bets are always fun and have been very popular for years now. Picking the Super Bowl winner in May gets you some great odds, a great payout, and some great street cred. Some will call the Futures silly prop bets or worthless longshots but there is plenty of value in NFL Futures betting. While anything can happen over the course of a NFL season, you are really only looking at a handful of teams that can win the championship and the odds are always outstanding.

The same can be said for picking the Conference Champions. You get great odds for a great payout and there are only a few teams to consider. This year’s AFC has plenty of value for the Futures bettor. Let’s look at the favorites, the value picks, and the longshots to help you find the big payday.

The Favorites

New England Patriots +250 – Where better to start than the New England Patriots. These guys have been there and been there and been there. It’s getting old really. However, they do keep it interesting. Huge comebacks one year and big letdowns the next but as long as Tom Brady is under center this team has a chance. At +250, they may not have the best value but no one will be surprised when you cash this ticket.

Pittsburgh Steelers +500 – The Steelers have been one of the more frustrated teams as of late. A perennial contender with one of the most high powered offenses in the league is set to make another run. Is this the year they break through? Hard to say but such a good team giving you +500 is a nice wager to cash in on.

The Value

Houston Texans +1000 – These value picks are where you can make some serious money and the Houston Texans are a solid pick this year at +1000. They have a lot of question marks but have all the characteristics of a team that can put a big year together and upset a few heavy-hitters along the way.

Jacksonville Jaguars +1000 – The Jags won’t be sneaking up on anyone this year. Their upset of Pittsburgh in the playoffs last year opened the eyes of their doubters very quickly. They fell short against the Patriots one week later but it did show they are a team on their way up. Most of the team returns for another run and it will be interesting to see if they can top last year.

Los Angeles Chargers +1300 – A fantastic choice for a long term bet like the AFC Champ Future. A breakout offense last year looks to improve even more. And on the defensive side, the Bolts added some serious veterans to the roster. In the NFL, you have to catch the hot up and coming team putting it all together and that’s an apt description of these Los Angeles Chargers.

The Longshots

Kansas City Chiefs +1600 – A tough early schedule for K.C will surely show us what kind of team they are this season. Coming in at +1600, the Chiefs are one of the more dicey Futures picks. They have the offense to go deep but there are questions on the defensive side of the ball. Can Andy Reid schemes get them over the top? This is a playoff calibur team no doubt. However, that last step is sometimes the biggest.

Baltimore Ravens +1800 – All of the Ravens Super Bowl wins have been a bit of a surprise. They are always a good team and tough to beat but are they able to put it all together to catch everyone sleeping again? +1800 makes it tempting though. They had a great draft and have a capable quarterback in the last year of his contract in Joe Flacco. Could be another one of those years.

Indianapolis Colts +2000 – Speaking of quarterbacks, Andrew Luck’s health remains the big question mark for the Colts. How is his shoulder? No one really knows. The Colts remain optimistic for two reasons: He has had plenty of time to heal and because they are stuck with them. This is the longshot of longshots here but stranger things have happened. It wasn’t that long ago a healthy Luck made turned them into a contender. At +2000 odds, it seems like a tempting offer.
