The Zurich Classic in New Orleans tees off on Thursday in an interesting style of tournament on the PGA Tour.
The pro’s of the PGA will tee it up this week as part of a two man team at the Zurich Classic of New Orleans from Louisiana. This tournament will take place from Thursday, April 26 until Sunday, April 29, 2018. There really isn’t any Daily Fantasy Sports to play this week but you can still wager on this event at most of the online sportsbooks that house and offer PGA golf odds.
This is the second year in a row that the Zurich Classic is being played as a team event. Team captains are selected from their PGA ranking and they may choose a partner of their choosing, permitting they are registered on the PGA Tour or qualify to play via sponsor endorsement.
The tournament officials changed up the play this year. Last year, they played Rounds 1 and 3 by Alternate Shot and Rounds 2 and 4 were played as Best Ball. This year is played via stroke play format with Best Ball being used in the 1st and 3rd rounds, while they will use Alternate Shot for the 2nd and 4th rounds.
Last year, four rounds of golf just wasn’t enough time to decide a winner so they ended up pushing the tournament into a playoff round on Monday. Jonas Blixt and Cameron Smith ended up winning the playoffs by beating Scott Brown and Kevin Kisner. Blixt and Smith are back this year, attempting to defend their titles.
Looking To Bet Now? Here's Our Top 2 Picks:
The Zurich Classic is being played at the TPC Louisiana. TPC Louisiana was designed by Pete Dye, so that means golfers will need to put a heavy emphasis on approach shots and pre-planning their approaches. There are plenty of trees surrounding this course and will come into play if golfers vere off the path and away from the greens.
TPC Louisiana plays as a Par 72 golf course and measures right below 7500 yards. The greens this week are going to be fast. They are designed to be around 12 on the stimpmeter and with the weather looking decent, they will be fast!
Both Bubba Watson and Matt Kuchar are playing well coming into the Zurich and both have distance that will help them with these longer Par 5’s. Watson has finished in the top 10 in 4 of his last 5 tournaments including the Masters. Kuchar hasn’t missed a cut since the Shell Houston Open, which is over a year ago! This team is really appealing and I suggest you at least consider them this week at 15/1.
This is a longshot but if things go well and Uihlein can find his stroke, they could absolutely compete for the win. Grillo is playing really well, while Uihlein is struggling. If they play well in the first round, they could build up a lead and contend in this tournament. Grillo has finished in the top 16 in 3 of the last 5 tournaments, while Uihlein has missed the cut in back to back tournaments. I think he can turn it around here and Grillo can be the anchor that keeps them in it late on Sunday.
My fade of the week will be Jordan Spieth and Ryan Palmer. Spieth is playing ok but Palmer is in a terrible funk right now and can’t seem to get anything going for the good of the order. He has missed 2 of the last 3 cuts and in the only cut that he made, he ended up in 76th place. Not even Jordan Spieth can save them in this one. Fade them and roll with someone else.
